From Editors Guild India (EGI) to Editors Guilt India. A completely skewed one-sided report full of fake narratives. A fact-finding team? Rather, it’s a fake collection mission.
First things first, the protected forest was announced in 1966, much before the existence of the Hill Area Committee (HAC). State government followed all possible legal steps, and if anything is alleged, anyone is free to go to court, just like anywhere in this country. Even the bulldozer man Yogi stops when the court issues a stay order.
But for some reason, the Kuki community seems to have a problem knocking on the court’s door.
The cover photo of the fact-finding uses a photo of dead Kuki persons where many blank photos are and completely neglects the Meitei dead. One should understand where this is going, but let’s give the benefits of the doubt and continue reading. Let me insert some of Meitei victims and imagine both images.

The ‘fact-finding mission’ was initiated as a result of a written complaint from Spear Corps. The face value of spear corps taken by EGI seems a little odd given AR has a bunch of FIRs and several videos online accused by one community of being biased against another community.

EGI says it’s not their mandate to examine the root cause of the conflict, then it follows with a big ‘BUT’ and a bunch of pages detailing the cause of the problem with information half bake at best and straight fake news in some cases.
Nobody called all Chin-Kuki people illegal immigrants, but those who entered Manipur after Manipur was annexed to India are illegal immigrants by definition. Here are some of the documents clearly showing the entry of numerous illegal Kuki aliens in Manipur.
The number 4000 EGI happily mentions is NOT all illegal kukis but was found within 2-3 months from a small number of villages and was stopped and never completed. One can read further details here.
As mentioned, the protected area was announced in 1966 before the HAC even became pregnant. The brut way of confrontation is the only way the Chin-Kuki people seem to know and knocking the court’s door is always neglected. I wonder why?
The state government led by N. Biren withdrew from SoO because these SoO groups were involved in instigating these violences as stated by the state government.
Being poor doesn’t give anyone the excuse and moral high ground to plant poppy. EGI may soon argue for a career assassin who kills people because the assassin happens to be poor, and that’s the only thing s/he learned in life.
The overwhelming plantation was in the Kuki area, and after repeated warnings, they were continuing it. Data don’t lie. And the person EGI not naming is a politician from the Kuki-Chin-Zo community.

After three pages of the origin of the problem after the big BUT, EGI decides to cut off the crucial afternoon part of the chain of events where the AK47-wielding peaceful Chin-Kuki militants burned down and razed the whole Meitei homes in Kangvai. And EGI starts reporting from the night of May 3. Quite a high journalist ethics maintained by the fake collection team. Let me put out some videos pulled from YT Kuki channels.
3 PM Kangvai destruction by Kuki Militants.
Kuki Militants with AK47 3rd May afternoon on a rampage to kill and burn Meitei and Meitei homes.
The photo EGI depicting as Kuki house is indeed a forest office burned down by the so called peaceful protestors way before afternoon. Quite peaceful standard for the fake collection team.
For more information, check it out here.
It looks like not so night which EGI conveniently failed to put in the report.
The selective picking of events is very much in display when EGI fails to report about the weapon loot from the gun store Churachandpur and the AK47s in the rally. The loot happened much earlier. than in Imphal.
Show us a news report saying AR was protecting only Kuki during the rescue operation.
EGI also omitted the report where the army killed four women in Churachandpur for blocking the army while rescuing Meitei and made it look like only Meira Paibis are blocking the road. The narration is that there are no roadblocks in Kuki-Chin dominant area. This happened on 6th May long before any Meira Paibi blocked anything.
Army killed 4 Kuki women in Churachandpur.
EGI happily mentions about the demystifying video released by Spears Corps but omitted the never released demystifying video of Kuki-Chin women AR+Army+state police in Moreh while the Chin-Kuki militants were burning the abandoned Meitei houses.
Kuki women blocking security forces while Kuki Militants burn abandoned Meitei houses in Moreh.
EGI boldly claims no Meitei women was raped. Another mission accomplished for the fake collection team.
EGI says tribals were better organized when dealing with reporters. This says all. It won’t say a word about the Chin-Kuki media narrative. Page 15 and 16 sums up the national media narrative that shaped the imperative narration of the conflict. The typical bipolar – Hindu majority oppressing the minority Christians. Who started it? The national and international media, where did they get these narratives? Through WhatsApp group, don’t believe me? Ask Afrida Hussain and her 4-5 buddies, sadly, whose WhatsApp chat screenshot got leaked.
If this was the report EGI prepared, the summary should be like this: All Meitei media are bad. We can’t say anything about Kuki-Chin media. All the videos of AR blocking police station gates and roads are not a matter, and AR is always right, and there is nothing that can go wrong. National media did a flopped job and parachute journalism, but they are sad that the Meitei side didn’t provide them with readymade news bullet points and VIP treatment.
This fact, Oh we like it, let's include it, that fact, nah it's against our narrative, drop it. Cherry picking.
Finally, it should be a fake collection mission rather than a fact-finding mission from Editors Guilt India, not Editors Guild India.
